Immersive education is growing and getting more popular.  Scholarly communication has grown from using printed books and journals to multimedia such as moving and still photo/video images, sound, animation, immersive 3D and virtual reality, simulation, executable code, and large data sets.  Because of this growing interest, libraries/librarians and museums have a growing role.  Managing the library is very complex and involves a lot of communication.  Museums also have a challenge because they need to use technology to share information to the audience.
The Libraries and Museums Technology Working Group is meant to project library and museum services and to help it grow in ways than just person to person and person to book interactions.  Instead, they use interactive 3D graphics and animation, video game and simulation technology, virtual reality, full augmented and mixed reality (FAM), voice over IP, web cams, and other digital media.  Together these things create virtual collaborative study spaces, virtual information literacy programs, virtual research and course consultations, virtual interlibrary document management, and virtual science delivery.
The objective of the Libraries and Museums Technology Working Group is to develop the standards and technologies that lead to library and museum services of Immersive Education.  In order to achieve these goals, the LAM.TWG members must do a lot of research, prepare, publish, develop, and maintain.
I personally think that it's great that the LAM.TWG is setting out to achieve these goals with such high standards.  I think that Immersive Education is the future and that we need people to come up with ideas and work hard to make them come to life.
